Brandon Riverbank
The Riverbank Discovery Centre works in partnership with many community groups to serve Brandon and the Westman area as a cornerstone space to host educational and cultural initiatives, promote environmental stewardship and to foster healthy community relationships.
Friends of the Bluebirds
Friends of the Bluebirds was formed in 1975. This ever expanding dedicated group of volunteers continue the work of providing habitat. These multitudes of nesting boxes, called Bluebird Lines, are found all over southern Manitoba. These boxes provide seasonal homes to both the Mountain and Eastern Bluebird as well as the Tree Swallow.
Dan Chranowski from FOTB will be giving us a talk about their group in February!
Delta Marsh Bird Observatory
Delta Marsh Bird Observatory is hosting three virtual talks about birds in the upcoming months. The November talk will focus on Manitoba’s grassland bird species and their endangered habitat and December (lining up with Christmas Bird Counts) has a talk on birding through your kitchen window.
For more information on these talks and how to register, visit the DMBO website.
Manitoba Habitat Conservancy
Manitoba Habitat Conservancy is a Manitoba-based charitable organization dedicated to conservation, restoration, and enhancement of fish and wildlife habitat.
We’ve checked out their Lauder sandhills and Noble Lake locations on past outings!
Manitoba Important Bird Areas Program
Manitoba is home to 36 Important Bird Areas that cover more than 15,680 km2. From the shores of Hudson Bay to the mixed-grass prairie in the southwest corner of the province, each IBA has its own significance to birds and biodiversity. Located on public and private land, many of Manitoba’s IBAs have no formal protection. Favourite birding destinations like Delta Marsh, Oak Hammock Marsh, Churchill, and Whitewater Lake all have IBA status.
Manitoba Burrowing Owl Recovery Program
The Manitoba Burrowing Owl Recovery Program was founded by Alex Froese in 2013. The program is a non-profit, on-the-ground conservation program addressing the ongoing decline of endangered burrowing owls in southwestern Manitoba.
