Westman Naturalists - Waterfowl Around Rivers and Wahtopanah
Join us for a drive around Lake Wahtopanah by Rivers. We’ll be stopping at a few good spots around the lake looking for migrating waterfowl, raptors, and songbirds. If we’re lucky maybe we’ll even see a cool Muskrat.
Minimizing the number of vehicles is always a good goal, if you’re up for carpooling around the lake. Bring any binoculars/cameras/scopes you may have as some of the birds will be far out on the water! Check the forecast before coming out and dress appropriately for potential short walks along the shore. The optional walking can be a little rough with large stones/rocks, and maybe some mud, so boots are a good idea.

Westman Naturalists - [Talk] The early evolution of vertebrate life on land: how the world we know today came to be
Join Dr. Mark MacDougal of Brandon University for an engaging look at life’s first steps onto land. Exploring early tetrapods, four-limbed vertebrates from roughly 290 million years ago, Mark will discuss how their evolution shaped vertebrate diversity and the ecosystems we know today. The talk highlights key German fossils from past research, plus current work on Canadian fossils expanding our understanding of vertebrate evolution.
